Because girls (should) stick together...

There’s a lot of negativity surfacing lately, and none of it seems to make much sense. People should be proud of who and what they are. We are more than just the shells that are our bodies, but those shells mean quite a bit. Our scars tell the stories of what we’ve done and where we’ve been. Our figures are the results of what we do with our extra time - whether it be working out or indulging in a bowl of ice cream.
There are two photos above. The one on the left is me upon my arrival during my most recent trip to Costa Rica. I’ll say I was a little chubby, but that wasn’t going to hold me back from scampering around the beach in a bikini everyday. I was in paradise - with old friends, new friends and my sea turtles. The picture on the right was the result, 10 days later, of detoxing in my little secluded nature reserve. Three filling but portioned meals a day, no snacking, fresh fruits and veggies, vegetarian diet, lots of water, fresh fruit juice, no preserved foods, and exercise of walking an average of 10 miles per day or night in the sand, plus a little yoga. I was slimmer and a little more fit because of it.
Now I’m back to that little extra chub. Blame it on trips to the local brewery with friends, working at a desk, some lazy weekends and my sweet tooth. Seeing photos and reading blogs about healthy eating and fitness are such a motivation. We all need constant encouragement to be the best versions of ourselves. Why do I care about maintaining a fit (and reminder - fit doesn’t have to mean super skinny) body? Because I love to hike and swim and travel and ride horses and do yoga and run with my dog at the age of 25, and I want to still love and be able to do those activities at the age of 85. I want my body to be filled with pure and healthy foods, not processed garbage. I want to eat foods that allow my body to function at its best and keep my mind sharp. I want to feel good. We should all want to feel good, and thank those who help us get on our way, not be bitter if we aren’t there yet.
